How to do the Pythagorean Theorem
Look at the triangle below. Pretend that a=14 and b=22. You are trying to find the value of c.
(we will use the problem 14 to the power of 2 + 22 to the power of 2 = c to the power of 2)
1. Write down the formula which is under the triangle below.
2. insert the numbers 14 to the power of 2 + 22 to the power of 2 = C to the power of 2
3. Square 14 and insert the number in the problem
4. Square 22 and insert the number in the problem
5. Add the two sums together: Should be 196 + 484= 680
6. C to the power of 2= 680
7. Square root 680 to find the value of C
8. If you did the Pythagorean Theorem right you should have the value of C= 26.08 (rounded)
